Cultural Heritage Month: June

In the month of June, we honor Caribbean American Heritage Month. We recognize and celebrate the contributions, achievements and historical impact of Americans with Caribbean heritage and how they have shaped our history and worldview.
Caribbean American Heritage Month was officially proclaimed by President George W. Bush in June 2006, following a resolution passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2005. The month of June was chosen to highlight the rich culture, history and contributions of Caribbean Americans to the United States. Alexander Hamilton, a Founding Father of the United States, was born in Nevis, a Caribbean island, and played a pivotal role in shaping the U.S. economy.
According to U.S. Census Bureau’s 2021 American Community Survey (ACS), the Caribbean-American population in the United States was estimated to be nearly 13.6 million.
