Cultural Heritage Months
UT Dallas recognizes the rich cultural heritage present in our community and invites Comets to honor, commemorate and celebrate the cultural contributions that different groups have made to the United States and beyond.
These celebrations provide opportunities to appreciate and learn from others’ traditions and culture, and shape our history, present and future.
Our calendar of Cultural Heritage Months is a reference point and is not meant to be interpreted as an exhaustive list. We invite the campus community to share other cultural heritage months/celebrations for consideration. Email us now.

Black History Month is celebrated every February and recognizes the immense contributions, achievements and history of African American/Black individuals who have shaped and enriched the cultural, social, political, economic, artistic, scientific and educational landscape of the United States and the world.
Black History Month was officially recognized by President Gerald Ford in 1976 during the United States Bicentennial. Since then, every U.S. president has designated February as Black History Month, a time to honor and celebrate the contributions and achievements of African American/Black people.
As of fall 2024, 5.29 percent of the UT Dallas collegiate population and 11.4 percent of UT Dallas staff members are African American/Black.
We invite you to join us in commemorating Black History during the month of February.
